About Patrick Ashamalla

My 140 character bio goes like this:
I’m a husband, artist, storyteller, designer, and entrepreneur. I bury myself in my passions. Sometimes I sleep; when I do I dream in color.

I attended Art school at Florida State University with the original intention of going into traditional or 3D animation. Early on, though, I discovered the newly budding speciality of web design and, most importantly for me, Flash. I saw the ability to still focus on the animation I love, but now instead of simply creating a linear one way story, I could create something with which people interacted. I could create dialog. I graduated from University in 1999 and have been working in the interactive design industry ever since.

Things simply unfolded from there. My foray into coding, programming, and design patterns have all been a means of furthering my exploration and capabilities within this discipline – all the while, using these new tools to expand on what I perceive to be at the core of the industry. Illustration and animation continue to heavily influence my views about interaction design, storytelling and the web.

In 2004, I founded A Brand New Way here in the DC metro area, and have grown the company to the successful firm it is today.

About Unended

I use this site as my own personal resource. I have traveled a very unique and interesting path will use this space to chronicle my experiences. This site is the home to my own personal experiments, journals, and artistic explorations. Unended is a living space and, as such, will constantly evolve.

Hopefully, my entries can become a resource for others, and in turn your experience can provide new perspectives that I would not have otherwise considered.

Under the Hood

The site is designed using fully implemented HTML5 and CSS3. It doesn’t play as nice with Internet Explorer 8 and lower, but this wasn’t a priority for me on the site. Most sizes have been set using ‘em’ values instead of pixel values. This allows the site to scale without breaking whenever some uses a larger default font size. Some frameworks that I have incorporated into the site are:

  • JQuery (via Google Code Library)
  • Yahoo! CSS Reset
  • Google Analytics
  • SWFObject (where applicable)

The blog portion of the site is running on WordPress 3.0. I’ve been working with WordPress for a while now, and have always been impressed with the CMS for both blogging and as a general platform. The release of 3.0 builds on that thought even more.

The site is hosted on a Dedicated Virtual Server with (mt) Media Temple. They are a quality group. I couldn’t be happier with the service.

Copyright

I reserve all the rights to any design, art, content and code that I post on UNENDED.com, unless it is otherwise noted. Any packaged files that I make available for download will include it’s own copyright information. If you do decide to use any of my original work, then credit and a link back is much appreciated.
